List Methodology

Athletes Make The Best™ Selection Methodology

Athletes Make The Best™ recognizes current and former athletes for excellence in their careers, businesses, and communities.

Our national Selection Committees include volunteer leaders from business, education, sports, and industry.

1. Committee Responsibilities

Members agree to:

  • Serve as unpaid volunteers.

  • Share nomination opportunities within their networks.

  • Evaluate applications fairly and confidentially.

  • Disclose potential conflicts of interest.

  • Receive official recognition for their service.

2. Selection Process

Step 1: Public Nominations

Athletes may nominate themselves or be nominated by others at no cost.

Step 2: Application Screening

Before committee review, applications are checked for eligibility and identifying information is removed. Committee members evaluate only the quality of the submitted applications.

Step 3: Committee Evaluation

During the month following each nomination deadline, committee members review eligible applications in their assigned categories.

Step 4: Point Allocation

Each committee member receives 10 points per category.

  • Each point must be awarded to a different nominee.

  • No nominee may receive more than one point from the same committee member.

  • Members select their 10 strongest applications based on quality, professional achievements, leadership, and community impact.

Step 5: Final Selection

Points from all committee members are combined. The 20 nominees receiving the most points in each list category are selected as honorees, subject to eligibility verification and tie-breaking procedures.

3. Committee Recognition

Members receive official Selection Committee credit and recognition in campaign communications.

4. Volunteer Agreement

☐ I understand this is an unpaid volunteer role. I agree to share nomination opportunities within my network, evaluate applications fairly, maintain confidentiality, and disclose conflicts of interest.

5. Next Steps

Selected committee members receive orientation, evaluation instructions, and review deadlines.

Athletes Make The Best™

Recognizing Excellence Beyond the Game.

This methodology uses a simple one member, ten nominees, one point each voting system instead of the previous 100-point scoring model. It also separates eligibility screening from committee evaluation to support a fairer selection process.
